Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is there any cost to the renter or owner?
A. No, all weatherization services are at no cost to eligible homeowners, renters or their landlords.
Q. Can renters get weatherization services?
A. Yes, renters can receive services. There is no cost to the property owner but their permission is required and they have to agree to the terms & conditions of the program.
Q. Is the income qualification based on my landlord’s income?
A. No, the home is qualified based on the tenant’s income. Income limits are listed in the instruction packet.
Q. How long does it take to get service?
A. GNS is required to serve low income and vulnerable populations based on their need and several other criteria. The evaluation of those criteria, as well as the availability of funding, determines how soon a client is served. It can take several months to a year and a half to receive services.
Q. My only heat source is broken. Can you fix it?
A. GNS may have funding available through an Energy Crisis Intervention Program. If your only permanent heat source or your hot water heater malfunctions or becomes a safety hazard, contact our Weatherization Administration Assistant at 530-938-4115 ext 127 to discuss the situation.
Q. What services are provided?
A. The program can repair and replace exterior doors, windows, and certain appliances and install floor and ceiling insulation. Additional energy efficiency measures are also available, as well as diagnostic testing of heaters and fuel-burning appliances for the safety of the occupants. The program does not repair roofs.
Q. How do I apply for weatherization services?
A. Call our Weatherization staff at 530-938-4115 Ext. 127 or request weatherization services when completing an energy assistance application. The same application allows you to apply for both programs. If you recently applied for Energy Assistance and did not indicate that you would like to be considered for Weatherization Services, give us a call and we can update your application.
Q. How often can I apply?
A. Apply every calendar year until you receive services.
