Thanks to your continued support, this year Great Northern Services’ Snack Bag Program provided 248 families in Weed, Dunsmuir, and McCloud with nutritious and fresh food during school breaks. We worked closely with those cities’ elementary schools and with the McCloud Family Resource Center to ensure the service reached those who needed a little help to keep their children well fed.
That’s just what our Snack Bag Program is designed to do – help families feed their children well over prolonged school breaks. Both regular and large Snack Bags are available to meet the need of families of different sizes, and are distributed just prior to spring and summer school vacations. This year the Snack Bags included whole wheat bread, 100% fruit juice, and protein items, and each bag was topped with gorgeous fresh produce. Great Northern purchased the dry food goods and re-usable shopping bags through Weed Ray’s Food Place and the fresh produce through General Produce in Mt. Shasta.
On December 1, 2015, you have the opportunity to support services such as this by making a gift to Great Northern during the online donation challenge event, “North State Giving Tuesday,” organized by the Shasta Regional Community Foundation.
Go to www.northstategives.org between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on December 1 and click on the “Leaderboards” tab at the top of the page. Find GNS in the alphabetized list of participating nonprofits and click on our name to activate the online payment system set up to receive donations. Your dollars will go further during this one day event thanks to an incentive of $75,000 donated by the Shasta Regional Community Foundation’s Knodel Family Foundation Fund and to be shared among the participating nonprofit organizations.
