Team up with Great Northern Services and other community leaders to kick start the Summer Food Program in Weed by attending the forum on Wednesday, May 13th, from 5 pm – 8 pm upstairs at the Mt. Shasta Brewery, 360 College Avenue in Weed.
Who should attend? “Parents and community members who feel strongly about eradicating childhood hunger,” says Crystal Aston, program champion. “This is a grassroots effort to create a vision for a hunger-free summer in this community”.
The Summer Food Program will provide free lunches to children at Bel Air Park from June 22nd – August 17th. The forum is designed to identify the challenges and opportunities around providing summer meals, and brainstorm ways to overcome them.
During the summer, 87% of local kids are at a heightened risk of experiencing hunger because they are not in school where they received a subsidized meal during the school year. Many families have a harder time making ends meet during the summer when kids are on vacation.
“Join us and become a summer food champion!” says Aston. “By working together as a community, we can use available funding to make sure that we reach kids in need with nutritious food”.
