Emergency Food Distributions
Families affected by the Boles Fire may receive gift cards for grocery shopping beginning Wednesday, Nov 12th at the Family and Community Resource Center (FCRC) of Weed at 260 Main Street. This new method of providing food to fire families replaces the Boles Fire Food Distribution (BFFD) effort at 310 Boles Street. Fundraising efforts by Ray’s Food Markets of Siskiyou County and Oregon and the Bucks for Boles event held at Bel Air Park in Weed have made possible a transition out of the emergency food distribution to the gift card program. Families affected by the fire must be registered with the FCRC and must have their ID cards to receive a grocery gift card. Registering with the FCRC of Weed can also help families and households meet other needs related to the fire. The FCRC is open Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 4 pm; for questions please call 530-938-9914.
Beginning Wednesday, November 19th – Siskiyou Food Assistance (SFA) will be open at a new location at College of the Siskiyous, Building 11 adjacent to the gym on Wednesdays from 11 am-3 pm. No food will be distributed Nov 7th through Nov 18th to allow the pantry to move to its new location.
SFA serves Weed area families based on income qualification. New clients should bring a photo ID for the head of household and proof of residency and income documentation for each family member. Find more information at www.siskiyoufoodassistance.org or call 530-408-6115 (please leave a message).
The Boles Fire Emergency Food Distribution system has been made possible almost entirely by a huge outpouring of community support. Initiated and sponsored by Great Northern Services, food distribution was set up and operated by volunteers throughout Siskiyou County using food donated from all over the region, including Oregon. Thanks so much to all the volunteers, businesses and organizations whose time, efforts, and food donations made the emergency distribution center possible. Key organizations behind this stellar effort include the City of Weed, Weed and Mount Shasta Rotary Clubs, Subway, and the Shasta Regional Community Foundation.
