Our emergency food program needs assistance from the community in the form of donated paper grocery bags. If you’ve got paper bags tucked away in your pantry or kitchen, please bring them to one of the drop off points listed below to help us feed families in need across Siskiyou County.
Our USDA Commodities program uses 1,500 paper grocery bags every two months to deliver food to 19 distribution sites that supply emergency food to nearly 1300 households. These sites are run by community organizations and volunteers and can also accept paper bag donations on distribution days. The current inventory of bags is very low, and program funding necessarily goes to purchase food, rather than paper bags to put the food in. You can help this critically important and chronically underfunded program by donating bags. Our partners have established drop off points for you to donate your paper grocery bags at the following locations:
Mt. Shasta City Park Upper Lodge / Senior Nutrition Center
(Mon – Fri 10 AM – 4 PM)
New 2 You Thrift Store at 412 S. Mt. Shasta Blvd
(Tues – Sat 11AM – 3 PM)
Great Northern offices 780 S. Davis Avenue on School Hill in Weed
(Mon – Thurs 8 AM – 4 PM)
Yreka Community Resource Center at 201 S. Broadway Street
(Tues – Fri 9 AM – 5 PM)
Thank you in advance for spreading the word about this need!
